Why does much of the world often regard sex as "controversial "? Hypocrisy eh...
ReplyDeleteA young woman here "exploring her sexuality" being "sexually liberated"... one always feels uneasy when the author of such a book is a man. Do men really want women to be sexually liberated? Our African men over the decades? A woman will always have doubts when even very great male writer like Chinua Achebe gives the impression that women are sex objects (see A Man of the People, eg). Even the title here, Fornicator gives impression of negativity, the woman already judged.
ReplyDeleteThe author is from Kenya, which has produced many excellent writers like Ngugi, Meja Mwangi, David Maillu, ... But the author here is still very young.... vibrant and exceedingly interested in sex?
ReplyDeleteCelebrating the wide variety, themes and nuances of creative African Writing
ReplyDeleteInterestingly there was a much earlier book (also from East Africa) titled The sobbing sounds which also featured many interesting sex scenes. The book published in the 70s or so, was written by Omunjakko Nakibimbiri. Anybody remember it?
ReplyDeleteWould like to read this book too ...no doubt the work goes well beyond sex or titillation. The author apparently is very talented.
ReplyDeleteQuite Interesting.
