A
magnificent novel which has been making waves around the world. Written by a
very talented young Nigerian woman who continues to garner praise from top
notch wordsmiths and critics at eclectic level. For men, I think they
must take note of the percipient yet different riveting emotions of women which
come across as captivating, even frightening in this work. So, apparent
childlessness can have such monumental effects from the prism of the pertinent
woman? Why would a couple who seem ill-matched - and are not even
straightforward towards each other - want to stay together anyway??
The writing style, the polyphonous approach and prose in this work is
fantastic. By the way, again, how does Nigeria produce all this steady stream
of world-class writers? From the early days of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka,
Chukwuemeka Ike, Elechi Amadi, Ola Rotimi, Flora Nwapa, Buchi Emecheta... In
recent times, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Helon Habila, Lola Shoneyin, and now
Ayobami Adebayo!
